49TH ANNUAL GREAT WESTERN BICYCLE RALLY
MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND / MAY 24 – 27, 2013
PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA

A Rally is the coming together of people for a common interest.  In the case of the Great Western Bicycle Rally, that common interest is cycling.  Whether you are a seasoned veteran of many long-distance adventures, or a new cyclist looking to learn more about cycling.  The Rally provides many opportunities to ride, share stories, learn and simply enjoy the company of fellow cyclists.  While we do include some amazing supported Century and Metric Century rides with the Great Western 100, the Rally offers so much more.  If you can only make it to Paso Robles for one day, riders can register for only the Velo de Femme or Great Western 100.  We hope to see you next May in beautiful Paso Robles for the 49th addition of the Great Western Bicycle Rally.

Paso Robles Festival of the Arts

5th Annual Paso Robles Festival of the Arts
May 24-26, 2013

Celebrating the visual, environmental and musical arts each Memorial Day Weekend in the Paso Robles City Park, this art-filled 3-day event features Guest Lectures on Friday, the Festival of the Arts main event on Saturday and an Art Collectors Tour on Sunday.

Saturday’s main event starts with a Plein Air Quick-Draw and Auction, followed by a Fine Art Show, Youth Art Zone and Stage, hands-on art activities for all ages, live music, dance performances and other musical, visual and artistic surprises. The main event is FREE to the public!

The "Local Color" Exhibition

Held inside Studios on the Park in the heart of downtown Paso Robles, this special month-long exhibition showcases original artworks celebrating the authentic beauty of northern San Luis County.

This is a major exhibition for Studios on the Park and the Festival of the Arts. Juror Marcia Burtt and judge Stephen Doherty of PleinAir Magazine will be looking for personal vision and creative approach as well as excellence in execution. Cash prizes will be awarded to the best art in the show.

The 2013 Paso Robles Festival of the Arts is proud to present two exciting master classes by internationally recognized pastel artist:  William Truman Hosner

Get into the spirit of Central California's premier art festival with instruction from this award-winning painter! Mr. Hosner teaches in pastel using a methodology of thinking and learning to express the effect of light in nature. The teaching divorces itself from any specific medium. Don't miss this exceptional opportunity to learn outdoor painting from one of the very best. Sign up today!

"Painting will invariably be reduced down to skill and content, neither ever successfully divorcing itself from its partner if art is to reach its greatest aspirations. It is to say that one cannot observe the creative phenomenon independently of the form in which it is made manifest.

I propose that we as artists are to bring order out of chaos and to untangle the tangled possibilities that exist when ones thoughts are vague. Integrity of mind leads to integrity in art, and one cannot have a vague set of principles and maintain integrity.

I will be calling upon your taste and feeling for order and discipline. My teaching is not about a set of abstracted theorems anymore than it is about my private feelings. Painting is in the making and there is no escaping that.

The value of my thoughts has been tested in my own experiences. I will not be offering you a series of opinions. Rather I offer a body of findings that have been developed in actual practice."

Join them for a soaring taste of California history, nature and adventure

At Margarita Adventures, they offer a uniquely thrilling perspective on a true California landmark-the historic Santa Margarita Ranch in the Paso Robles wine country.

The Renegade

The sweeping views from the start of the Renegade line will take your breath away—and so will the ride itself. Departing from a looming hillcrest, you will soar 1,300 feet across a grassy valley and into an awaiting oak forest along a rugged flank of the Santa Lucia Mountains.

The Woodlander

Next, you will travel 800 feet over the canopies of native blue and white oak trees before touching down on a steeply pitched mountainside.

The Hilltopper

For the next 500 feet, you emerge from the oaks and digger pines and glide down onto a bare hill, where you can take a breather before your final descent.

The Archway

Finally, you will descend 800 feet back into the forest and under a natural archway of companion oaks before emerging to a wide-open panorama of vineyards and mountains.
In riding our ziplines, you will gain a memorable experience of adventure and accomplishment. We look forward to helping you soar.

Along the way, you will learn about the ranch's remarkable natural features and role as part of California's famed Mission Trail.  Your tour concludes with a complimentary wine tasting.
