Each year the Central Coast Wine Competition celebrates the excellent quality and diversity of commercial wineries and grape growers in the fastest-growing wine region in California. And thanks to a special blind-tasting at the California Mid State Fair earlier this month, there are now even more reasons for wine-lovers to visit the Paso Robles region…
 

Excuse #1: Broken Earth Winery’s 2015 Grenache

Best in Show went to Broken Earth Winery’s 2015 Grenache. The honor came after judges awarded it a Gold Medal and deemed it both Best in Class (Grenache) and Best Red Wine. Broken Earth’s win marks the second year in a row the top wine included Paso Robles Rhône grape.
 

Excuse #2: Eberle Winery’s 2016 Muscat Canelli

The Best White Wine was awarded to this off-dry white wine from the Paso Robles. The winery also won a Gold Medal and was awarded Best in Class in the Off Dry-to-Sweet White category.
 

Excuse #3: Kitá Wines 2016 Grenache Rosé

The Best Pink Wine honor went to this rosé from the Santa Ynez Valley. The winery also won a Gold Medal and was awarded Best in Class for Grenache Rosé category.
 

Excuse #4: Laetitia Vineyard & Winery’s 2014 Brut Cuvée

Best Sparkling Wine was awarded to bubbles from Arroyo Grande. The winery also claimed a Gold Medal and was awarded Best in Class for the Méthode Champenois category.
 

Excuse #5: Glunz Family Winery’s Mission Angelica

The Best Dessert Wine was awarded to Glunz Family Winery’s Mission Angelica. This Paso Robles winery also won a Gold Medal and was awarded Best in Class for the Fortified Wine category.
