Here in Paso Robles, we pride ourselves not only on our fine fines—but on the friendliness of our winemakers too.

If you want to meet a winemaker and learn all about how they weave their own particular brand of magic, there are plenty of vineyards and tasting rooms to visit.

However, there’s also a host of special events taking place this summer that will give you the opportunity to meet a winemaker face to face and ask all of the questions you’ve been aching to ask! Here are details about a couple of our favorites…

1. Meet the Winemakers at Pappy’s

Pappy McGregor’s is an award-winning pub in downtown Paso Robles that showcases farm-to-table comfort food, seasonal craft cocktails, local beers and plenty of delicious local wines.

This popular pub’s new ‘Wine Wednesday’ event features a different Paso Robles winemaker each week, who will be in the bar’s back patio to pour some wine and chat about their creations.

There’ll be a fabulous selection of winemakers at Wine Wednesdays throughout June, including Sterling Kragten of Cass Winery on June 6, Eric & Jill Ogorsolka of Zenaida Cellars on June 13, Maggie Tillman of Alta Colina on June 27 and Patrick Brooks of Wine Shine on June 27.

2. The Harvest Hike at Zenaida

If you really want to dive into the winemaking process, check out the ‘Harvest Hike’ that’s taking place as part of the new ‘Experience Zenaida’ series of events.

Experience Zenaida takes visitors beyond the tasting room to take a deeper educational dive into the inner workings of an estate vineyard and winery – from the soil to the cellar.

Taking place on August 25 from 10am, this hike and tasting will take you into the canopied vine rows with winemaker Eric Ogorsolka as he leads you through a typical grape-check session. You’ll be able to see – and taste – what Eric is monitoring to determine the all-important pick time. The hike will conclude with a private tasting with Eric back at the winery.

If you’re keen to taste the best of Paso Robles’s wines at these fascinating events, the BEST WESTERN PLUS Black Oak Hotel is a perfect accommodation option for your getaway. This beautifully-landscaped family-run property features a variety of well-appointed rooms and suites, along with an onsite restaurant, heated pool, sauna, hot tub and fitness center.
